WRPCO Reminds Petenwell and Castle Rock Users to Exercise Caution During Spring's High River Flow

Necedah, WI – Wisconsin River Power Company (WRPC), which operates the Petenwell and Castle Rock dams on the Wisconsin River between Wisconsin Rapids and Wisconsin Dells, would like to remind everyone that as winter comes to an end and spring approaches with warmer weather, river flows can increase significantly. The increased flow can make activities on the flowages more dangerous during this time of year.

The Wisconsin River Drainage Area is approximately 12,280 sq. mi. which reaches from southern Wisconsin far into the north woods. During spring thaw when the ground is still frozen and vegetation is dormant, warmer weather accompanied by rainfall, may result in significant runoff leading to increased river flows. Residents, business owners, and sport enthusiasts around the Wisconsin River should be aware of forecasted weather and current river conditions.

Current river flow and reservoir elevations can be found on the WRPC website at for up-to-date information.
